Refugees are eager to learn English when they arrive to Owensboro. It allows them to make American friends, have access to more job opportunities, and make more sense of the many new adjustments. For the first few months after refugees arrive, they are waiting for government issued documents like work permits and social security numbers. They are without transportation, but have time to go to ESL class and study at home. Providing a ride once a week makes a huge difference during this crucial language learning time. We seek volunteers to commit to taking refugees to class and returning them home one day a week for 4-6 months. Class times are:
- Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10am to noon at Owensboro Christian Church
- Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm – 9pm at Owensboro Community and Technical College’s Downtown Campus.
